film write-up #5

MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN

CLIVE BARKER wrote the short story it was adapted from..
...this movie is brutal at times... you follow a new york city photographer who finds himself tailing a maniacal serial killer...

... when other horror films would just have a killer do his thing and torture / shock audiences, this film has a fantasy feel to it that is a breath of fresh air, if you ask me.

FORTRESS

It is an Australian film that I saw when I was much younger. It was originally released for television, I watched it with a good friend, and it left some intense images in both of our minds.

That is actually what made me seek the film out to watch it again... I find it fascinating when certain images are still burned into my memory from so many years ago!

In this story there is a schoolteacher and her class of children, they get kidnapped by a group of men and are held for ransom...that is until the children and their teacher decides its time to fight back or die. It's interesting to see how thin the line between victim and attacker can be.

This movie is just as good as I remember it, please watch it. You may have some trouble finding it, many film shops and rental establishments don't carry it, but in this internet age you can find almost anything your heart desires, so seek it out!

THE BROKEN

( from the 3rd edition of the AFTERDARK HORRORFEST)

this is a slow moving, mindbender of a story, it doesn't answer too many questions...
i'd say this was better than most i've seen from these 8 films to die for.
a doctor sees herself drive by on the streets of london, and this sets off a movement of dark ongoings concerning her and those around her.

watch it.
